Whatever your position on guns, allow me to discuss my views.
I approve their usage for military, recreational, and self-defense purposes. By "recreational", I mean managed, ethical shooting tournaments in which the targets are inanimate objects. I also support well-managed, regulated gun ranges.
I approve background checks prior to purchasing a gun.
I disagree with people who claim that guns cause crime.
A recent news report covered a story during which a kid stumbled upon his father's handgun. He pulled the trigger and ended up killing his friend.
Was the gun to blame?
NO! If the father had followed the basic rules of gun safety and stored it in a case (unloaded, of course), this would never have happened. You cannot tell me that the father's irresponsibility was the kid's fault. It's also curious that the report never mentioned if the father completed a Hunter's Safety course.
I see no reason why a responsible, mentally sound, law-abiding citizen should be denied access to a firearm.
That's my viewpoint. What's yours?
